Recently, my perspective on life has changed quite dramatically. I have always been a worrier and it had started to really drag me down and look for the negatives in everything or for things that could go wrong, rather than what could go right. It was not getting me anywhere, and from my previous post you know that I have been feeling quite down and feeling a little lost. I feel now I have turned a corner, and I think it’s all about the little things in life that get you through the mundanity of everyday life. If you think back to when you last smiled to yourself or felt truly happy, it was probably because someone you love or who is extremely important to you did something spontaneous and nice, just to cheer you up and put that beautiful smile on your face.
When I think back on what has made me feel happier, a number of things spring to mind but they are all little gestures that mean more to you than anything else in the world and instantly warm you up inside and completely melt your heart. If more people appreciated and searched for the little things, the world would be a much happier place!
Now moving on to a slightly less soppy subject, I have been thinking about the things in my life that have made me feel better about myself and the things that have always made me happy. I have recently started an art class, and even though I am awful, I love it! I love doing something creative and something new – I have always believed in pushing yourself to try new things and constantly having goals and or aspirations. I love my happiness planner too, it really encourages you to look at the positive things about your day and what you hope for tomorrow. Like the saying goes – it’s a new day, a new start. I also have a love for stationary. Yes it is ridiculously sad and pathetic, but nothing makes you feel organised like a pretty notebook, list-book and matching pens! Lastly and most importantly, the thing that I feel the most motivated and happy about is my plan for next year. I am finally going to go travelling and even talking about it gets me beyond excited!!! I have always been useless with managing my money, but I have never felt more motivated to save every penny than I currently do. It really is amazing what you can do when you really want something and you put your mind to it.
Trying to find your passion or calling in life is something most of us struggle with, and unfortunately, many people “settle” for a mundane life and accept things for what they are. I have never been able to do that. Other than when I was at uni, I have never felt happy or content with my ‘role’ in life. I have ALWAYS wanted more. But I have never known what that ‘more’ is. Until now. Deciding to go travelling has really changed my way of thinking and I finally free to make my own choices and not constantly worry about being able to afford my own place or having a “proper job”. In reality, those things are not important to me and I have finally realised that.
Variety is the spice of life and you should try everything once, twice if you like it! Starting an art class may seem old fashioned, but nowadays everything is virtual or too easy to obtain. Where is the fun in that? It makes everyone a sheep and very, very boring! Being creative is so important. It makes us more articulate and eager to learn more. We were given brains to use, to learn and to create. Sadly, many people do not take advantage of the amazing things available to us and what the world has to offer. We can learn anything we want to, we can experience almost anything and there are 204 countries in this world that we can visit. But too many people are living in the smallest bubbles, not experiencing anything. This will not be me. I am going to cross so many things off a forever growing bucket list, and add more things to it on my journey.
I feel like I am taking control of my life little by little. It is becoming all about the little things, which will eventually add up to big, bright and extraordinary things!
